Mental health is one of the most important issues facing business today. The Department of Health reports that one in four people will experience a mental health illness at some point in their lives, and a recent UK Labour Force Survey showed that stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 44% of all work-related ill health cases, and that 54% of all working days lost were due to ill health.
No matter if you are an employer or employee, understanding mental health and promoting a positive workplace environment is of central importance. Workplaces that genuinely promote and value wellbeing and good mental health, and support people with mental health problems are more likely to reduce absenteeism, improve engagement and retention of employees, increase productivity, and benefit from associated economic gains.
So how can you improve wellbeing and strengthen mental health at work? In this comprehensive yet accessible book, authors Gill Hasson and Donna Butler provide expert guidance for embedding supportive, mentally-healthy practices within organisations. They explain the relation between work and mental wellbeing whilst providing a framework for addressing the essential aspects of workplace mental health.
