New Approach to Creating Course Materials Narrows the Skills Gap by Connecting Classrooms to Careers

HOBOKEN, NJ February 22, 2019 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (NYSE: JWa) (NYSE: JWb) today announced the release of a new textbook, Applied Marketing, the textbook in the Principles of Marketing course designed to narrow the gap between traditional business curriculum and what employers expect from graduates entering the workforce.

Applied Marketing is the first marketing text to be co-authored by a practitioner, Andrew Loos, Founder and CSO of Attack! Marketing, and an award winning academic, Dr. Daniel Padgett, associate professor of marketing at Auburn University. The textbook provides business students with a customer-centric view of marketing theories, trends, and practices through a variety of tools including a comprehensive author-curated video program consisting of industry expert insights, company tours, author roundtables and company case studies.  In addition, the course features engaging applied examples, flexible assessments, and adaptive learning to reinforce key concepts and prepare students for academic and business success.

“The workforce, regardless of industry, is dramatically changing. Wiley’s role as a publisher is to not only help students achieve academic success, but also prepare them for the transforming marketplace,” said Tim Stookesberry, Wiley’s Senior Vice President and General Manager, Education.  “Applied Marketing is a great example of how academics and practitioners can come together to improve learning outcomes through the creation of relevant course materials and smart assessments.”

“Marketing is an exciting and constantly evolving field, and we’ve seen how effective continued education can be within our industry when it is practiced through hands-on experiences,” said Andrew Loos, co-author of Applied Marketing and CSO of Attack! Marketing.  “We’ve taken this same applied learning approach to the classroom and created a truly unique offering that engages and immerses students into the same world marketers, like myself, experience every day — a world that is driven by both principle and practice closely working side by side.”

Applied Marketing launched at the Winter AMA Conference in Austin, Texas, where academics and researchers are exploring the complex and transforming marketplace. To learn more about Applied Marketing, see this video or stop by the Wiley booth at AMA.
