John Wiley and Sons Inc., (NYSE:JWA) (NYSE:JWB), today announced the
launch of a comprehensive research publishing learning program, the Wiley
Researcher Academy, unique in testing knowledge and understanding.
Encapsulating the entire publishing process, the Wiley
Researcher Academy is an important support tool, establishing the
skills needed to successfully publish research, collaborate and mentor.
The program has been created, developed and is launched by a global
network of journal editors and industry experts with Dr Andrew Moore as
Editor-in-Chief. Contributors include: Dr Bernd Pulverer, Head of
Scientific Publications & Chief Editor, EMBO Journal; Dr Margaret
Cargill, Adjunct Senior Lecturer, University of Adelaide; Dr Oliver
Renn, Head of Science Communication, ETH Zurich.
It has been developed to offer an efficient, effective means to make
high-quality training on research skills, writing and publishing
available to early to mid-level career researchers at universities,
academic and R&D institutions and organizations interested in publishing
research. The Wiley
Researcher Academy provides investment in the future advancement of
science and technology and the future growth and sustainability of the
global knowledge economy.
“Effective learning is one of the biggest challenges we face. Being able
to deliver a scalable solution to everyone that needs it can transform
individuals and the world in which we live”, said Judy Verses, EVP
Research, Wiley
Professor Aaron Ciechanover, Winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in
Chemistry, remarked: “Getting educated and trained in the skills one
needs in order to publish research results, hypotheses, and models has
never been more important, in particular for young scientists, but also
for the more established among us: Wiley has taken an important
initiative in developing an on-line platform that provides that
education and assesses participants’ progress. There is no doubt it will
help scientists increase the impact of their studies.”
The Wiley
Researcher Academy is a comprehensive, online, institutionally
scalable, researcher training program, pedagogically designed to deliver
effective learning in a digital environment. The program delivers 14
modules covering areas such as best practices, processes and trends
which are key for researchers to understand to be successful in research
and publishing. In addition, researchers can access interactive
community spaces to facilitate networking and collaboration. Designed in
collaboration with learning experts, it boasts a didactically-conceived
assessment structure that tracks participant performance and progress.
