John Wiley and Sons Inc., (NYSE:JWA) (NYSE:JWB) today announced a
partnership with Arizona State University (ASU) to provide higher
education institutions funding, leadership training materials and
publishing workshops in order to develop engineering and science
capacity in Vietnam. The agreement complements ASU’s BUILD-IT Project,
sponsored by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which
brings together government, industry and academic partners with the
shared goal of providing high-quality programs that link together
science, technology engineering and math (STEM) disciplines.
“Wiley is proud to partner with Arizona State University,” said Clay
Stobaugh, Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of Wiley.
“This partnership will enhance higher education STEM academic programs
in Vietnam and provide institutions and students with high-quality and
high-impact course material and learning solutions.”
With 80% of the 54 million workers in Vietnam not having appropriate
skills to participate in the digital economy, this agreement will
strengthen the programs available within Vietnam institutions and
provide additional opportunities for students to better compete in the
current and future workforce. The agreement aligns closely with the
Vietnam government’s Industrial Revolution 4.0 initiative to develop
skills that will be crucial to ensure Vietnam’s sustained growth and
competitiveness. Industrial Revolution 4.0 targets major innovations in
digital technology, all coming to maturity right now and poised to
transform the shape of regional and global economy.
Mr. Stobaugh added, “Ultimately, this partnership will strengthen higher
education in Vietnam, improve the attainment of learning outcome for
students and increase opportunities for workforce participation and
quality employment.”
“ASU’s collaboration with Wiley enables Vietnamese university partners
to access resources and world-class training from the industry leader,”
said Jeffrey Goss, Associate Vice Provost SE Asia, Arizona State
University. “Such support will help to develop leadership, research and
publication skills essential for advancing research publications to
world-class standards.”
BUILD-IT brings together government, industry and academic partners with
the shared goal of providing high quality programs that link together
the STEM subjects of science, technology engineering and math. BUILD-IT
seeks to strengthen higher education policy toward autonomy in Vietnam
to ensure world-class governance; to open opportunities for professional
development, innovation and STEM mentorships through university and
private sector collaboration; and to develop the highest standard of
educational programs, training and accreditation that improve academic
outcomes.
