Great Answers to Tough Questions at Work by Michael Dodd

06/09/2016

Great Answers to Tough Questions at Work is a new book by communications expert Michael Dodd that helps people at all levels of the workforce answer questions in an age of increasing accountability- whether they're dealing with the media, their boss or preparing for an interview or parliamentary committee.

Great Answers To Tough Questions At Work (9780857086396) is a new book for people at all levels of the workforce to help them cope with ever-tougher questioning in an age of increasing accountability.

The book provides the golden formulae to deal with challenging questions amidst greater personal and organisational exposure via social media, always-on cameras, free-flowing access to information on the internet and instant round-the-world communication.

Helping people navigate these challenges is former broadcast interviewer and foreign correspondent Michael Dodd. He offers advice for anyone who wants to improve their communication and answer questions more effectively, whether they’re dealing with media, colleagues, clients, shareholders, financiers, or a potential employer.

Drawing on his experience putting business leaders and politicians under pressure, Dodd outlines strategies to combat even the hottest ‘blowtorch-on-the belly’ questions, whilst helping readers enhance their effectiveness, confidence and image.

“Of course no one wants to resemble a question-evading politician when taking part in an important conversation in the workplace,” writes Dodd. “This book will help readers formulate more impressive, reassuring and inspiring answers that are based on exact truths and backed up with persuasive examples.”

Emphasising the power of planning, preparation and practice, the book explains that the art and science behind giving great answers is a learnable skill.

Great Answers to Tough Questions is split into two main parts:

  • Part One: The Tools You Need- From harnessing the power of stories, positioning your body in the right way, striking the correct tone of voice, and preparing for different personality types, this section looks at tactics, techniques and strategies to tackle tough questions.
  • Part Two: Using Your New Tools- This section helps readers apply lessons from Part One to challenges that commonly arise in the workplace, including price negotiations, nerve-wracking job interviews and public grillings.

Great Answers to Tough Questions at Work also includes case study examinations of people in the public spotlight who have done particularly well or particularly badly while answering questions and draws out the lessons for readers.

Michael is available for interview, comment or by-lined articles on topics relating to communication at work, including:
