Envestnet's Jay Hummel Offers Professionals Advice on Succession Planning in New Book

10/07/2015

Envestnet, Inc. (NYSE: ENV), announces the book launch of Success and Succession: Unlocking Value, Power, and Potential in the Professional Services and Advisory Space, an insightful look at leadership transition from the successor's perspective co-written by Jay Hummel, a senior vice president in the company's Advisory Services group.

The book is now available wherever books and eBooks are sold: http://tinyurl.com/Success-Succession

Written to outline the considerations and strategies that lead to a better future for businesses, the book shares the insight of both company founders and successors, including 27 executives from the financial-services, accounting and legal industries, including Fidelity's head of the RIA segment, Bob Oros, Pershing Advisor Solutions Chief Executive Officer Mark Tibergien, Schwab's head of Advisor Services, Executive Vice President, Bernie Clark and Envestnet's President Bill Crager.

Within the financial services space, independent advisors must take proactive measures on succession to protect their own financial security, retain clients and avoid the operational issues that all too often accompanies such a drastic change. With a focus on practical planning and execution, this guide provides strategies that smooth the transition and can help the new leadership make better business decisions.

In addition to the operational and financial issues facing any succession, the book addresses the emotional toll any business transition can take on individuals, colleagues, business partners, family and friends.

Hummel and co-authors Tim Kochis, founder of wealth management firm Aspiriant and a 40-plus-year veteran of the wealth management industry, and Eric Hehman, the chief executive officer of Austin Asset who in 2014 completed a seven-year transition plan providing for the retirement of the firm's founder, give readers a framework for smoothing the process and driving the best possible future of the business.

"We interviewed everyone from iconic thought leaders to the heads of family-owned shops looking to shine a light on the various stages of transition and highlight the real-world application of these strategies," said Hummel. "We wanted to give readers an inside look at what worked for these advisors, what didn't, and what they wish they had thought of."

Passing the torch from the founder to successors is far from an academic exercise, and not linear. Answers are hard to find, and the process requires patience, creativity, and a willingness to try again. Success and Successionshares unique strategies for success from the perspective of incoming leadership and a powerful message for business leaders.
