Liu Zhenya, the Chairman of State Grid Corporation of China, a
government-owned enterprise that constructs and operates power networks
covering 26 provinces and municipalities, has written a new book, Electric
Power and Energy in China (Wiley; ISBN: 978-1-118-71635-9; June
2013). In the book the author proposes a new innovative idea, “Macro
Energy Perspective,” promoting the sustainable development of the energy
industry in China while addressing the country’s growing demand for
energy consumption.
Developing a sustainable energy industry is a key challenge that affects
China’s overall economic and social development. This is even more so
with China’s increasing dependence on foreign energy sources coupled
with the complexities of its international energy ties and climate
change.
Addressing this concern, Liu said, “Building up an energy framework that
is safe, efficient, clean and economical requires recognizing the
complexity of the energy issue and adopting a grand energy vision.”
Liu proposes strategic concepts in the book for changing energy
development methods while still prioritizing China’s basic policy of
resource conservation. These include:
-
Energy development and conservation
-
Traditional and new energy development
-
Utilization of domestic and overseas resources
-
Improvements in energy distribution and transmission
-
Promotion of innovation in science and technology and institutional
mechanisms
The book, published by Wiley, provides an insight into China’s energy
strategies from the perspective of the author, who had been a senior
engineer in the field of electric power and energy for nearly 40 years.
Readers who engage in electrical power and energy sectors will get an
exclusive look into “Macro Energy Perspective,” which has never been
discussed comprehensively in any other books, reports, or articles.
Providing a comprehensive examination of China's energy strategy, Electric
Power and Energy in China discusses a variety of issues,
including energy transportation and allocation, end-user consumption,
markets, early warning and emergency systems, technical innovation
and many more.
Electric Power and Energy in China is now available
in both print and e-book versions. This 400-page book is priced at US
$80.00. For more information, visit the publisher’s website at www.wiley.com/buy/9781118716359.
