Mark Mobius’ new emerging market investment guide equips investors with information needed to successfully navigate the world’s fastest growing markets

05/02/2012

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimated that emerging economies would grow by 5.7% in 2012, four times faster than the 1.4% growth estimated for developed countries. While there are no guarantees of investment success in emerging markets, Mark Mobius, Executive Chairman of Templeton Emerging Markets Group offers plenty of good, solid lessons needed for taking advantage of the best investment opportunities in his new book, ‘The Little Book of Emerging Markets’ (Wiley; April 2012; ISBN: 978-1-1181-5381-9; available in hardcover and e-book formats; US$29.95).

In this book, Mark Mobius explains the ins and outs of emerging market investment with guidance on how to pick the industries and companies mostly likely to boom, why policies and regulation are vital to making intelligent investment decisions, and how to recognize genuine opportunities.

“By offering investors the opportunity to invest in a “younger generation of emerging markets”, frontier markets provide an attractive investment. Many of the characteristics that have made emerging markets fascinating to investors are now becoming increasingly evident in frontier markets. These characteristics include: positive economic trends such as high growth, high potential for capital market development as well as the presence of attractively valued companies,” Mark Mobius said.

Having worked in emerging countries for more than forty years, Mark Mobius has learned a great deal about how these markets operate and where money can be made in them. Now, with ‘The Little Book of Emerging Markets’, he puts his approach to these markets in perspective, with discussions of:

The importance of emerging markets as an investment destination

Investment instruments that allow access to these markets—from emerging market mutual funds to depository listings of emerging market companies

The realities of emerging market risk and how to capitalize on it

Finding future growth in frontier markets, which are younger and less developed than emerging markets

Profiting from a firm understanding of the macro and micro views of an emerging market

Throughout the book, "Field Notes" from Mobius's recent trips to countries considered to have emerging or frontier markets are included. These notes highlight industries to watch out for and offer a glimpse into the sentiment there.

This 208-page pocket-sized book is written in a straightforward and accessible style to guide investors to find the best possible investments within the emerging markets.
